Milwaukee’s future, told in many voices

As part of our master’s capstone project, our team, the Futures Studio, collaborated with pataphysician and writer Coe Douglas to imagine Milwaukee as a future climate refuge. Using design fiction as a method to democratize and diversify future thinking, we invited community members including artists, organizers, and professionals to submit imagined accounts of life in a climate-changed Milwaukee. The final outcome was a collaboratively created zine, laid out in InDesign, featuring a mix of community submissions and our own contributions. After presenting the zine, we organized a final showcase where visitors could interact with the stories, ideas, and provocations we had gathered and created. This project aimed to open up space for alternative narratives, collective imagination, and inclusive visions of what the future could look like.
